Palmer Center Activities and Events for November 2023  

INDEPENDENCE, MO – The Palmer Center at 218A N. Pleasant St. in Independence, MO is operated by the City of Independence and is dedicated to the mission of improving the overall health of adults 60+. DIY Poppy Brooch on Friday, 11/3, at 12:15 PM 

Make a poppy brooch out of felt and buttons to wear for Veterans’ Day.  

Diabetes Support Group on Fridays, 11/3 and 12/1, at 10:30 AM 

This group will talk about personal challenges and triumphs while swapping recipes and tips with other members. Participants will receive helpful resources and materials, and an occasional guest speaker will come with advice on managing diabetes. 

Veterans’ Recognition on Tuesday, 11/7, at 12:30 PM 

Palmer Center Dining Room Co-Sponsored by Good Shepherd Hospice. 

Veterans’ Breakfast on Thursday, 11/9, at 9 AM  

Veterans and their family members or guests are invited to this special breakfast to say Thank You for your service. Registration is required by Friday, November 3. Co-sponsored by Good Shepherd Hospice.  

Creative Writing Course on Tuesdays, 11/14 - 12/26, at 10 AM 

Sharpen your storytelling skills and learn about creative writing during this 8-week course.   

Bird Bingo on Tuesday, 11/14, at 12:30 PM 

Learn about birds native to Missouri while playing Bingo. It is made possible through a collaboration with friends from George Owens Nature Park. 

Toolkit for Active Living on Tuesdays 11/14 - 12/19, from 10 – 11 AM 

Registration Required by 11/7 by calling (816) 325-6200. Free for adults 60+, and space is limited! Living with a chronic condition such as diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, pain, or anxiety can be a daily challenge, but it doesn’t have to be. This 6-week workshop will be held via conference call using your telephone and will help you discover a variety of tools to help improve your health and well-being. Materials will be available for pick up or can be mailed or delivered to your home. 

Thanksgiving Luncheon on Wednesday, 11/22, at 11:30 AM  

Join us for a traditional Thanksgiving meal with turkey, sides, and pumpkin pie. Reservations are REQUIRED beginning on Monday, November 13 through Friday, November 17. Suggested $3 donation for those 60+ and $6 for guests under 60. 

Music and Memories on Tuesday, 11/28, at 12:30 PM 

Celebrate the memories of loved ones with special live holiday music and snacks. Co-Sponsored by Crossroads Hospice and Palliative Care. Music 101 is on the 1st, 3rd, & 5th Wednesdays in Nov. & Dec. at 10:30 AM. This free beginner’s music course taught by a professional musician will focus on voice and piano basics.  

New Theatre - Catch Me If You Can on Wednesday, 11/29, from 10:15 AM – 4:30 PM  

Enjoy a wonderful lunch buffet, followed by the comedy thriller Catch Me If You Can, starring Jim O’Heir. This entertaining “whodunit” will keep you guessing and laughing from start to finish. The seats for this show are on the left side of the theatre. Price: $59 

 

December Events and Activities with November Registration Deadline: 

Annual Senior’s Christmas Celebration Friday, 12/8, at 11 AM – 1 PM 

Palmer Center Gymnasium Doors open at 10:30 AM, and lunch is served at noon. From 9 – 10:30 AM, enjoy pastries and pre-party entertainment in the dining room. Take your picture with Santa, enjoy a holiday meal, and enter the door prize drawing. Reserved seating – choose the table you would like to sit at when you purchase your ticket. Tickets are $8 and go on sale Nov. 1.
