Palmer Center Activities and Events for JUNE 2023

 

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – The Palmer Center at 218A N. Pleasant St. in Independence, MO is operated by the City of Independence and is dedicated to the mission of improving the overall health of adults 60+. Warm Springs Ranch Tour Warm Springs Ranch in Boonville, MO, Thursday, 6/22, from 7:45 a.m. - 4:15 p.m. 

Home to more than 70 Clydesdales ranging from foals to stallions. The tour includes lunch at Maggie’s Bar & Grill. 

 

Chalk Walk on the Patio Thursday, 6/1 at 12:30 p.m. 

Celebrate summer and have fun creating art with chalk or be inspired by others' artwork.

 

Health Screenings Blood Pressure Check:

  • By Cleveland University Tuesday, 6/20 from 9:30-11:15 a.m. by VNA 

 

OTA Health and Wellness 6/1, 6/8, 6/15 at 9:00 a.m. 

Join us for a series of presentations by students from Cleveland University as they talk about Mental Health and Self Care. 

 

Doughnut Day 6/2 at 10:00 a.m.

It is National Doughnut Day, and we are celebrating! Stop by for Doughnuts, coffee, and lively conversations. 

 

Veteran’s Café Thursday, 6/8 at 10:30 a.m. 

Join other Veterans and family members for coffee, pastries, conversation, and learning about veteran benefits. Co-sponsored by Good Shepherd Hospice.

 

Project Linus Quilters Friday, 6/9, from 12:30 - 4 p.m. 

Bring your sewing machine and basic supplies and come sew Project Linus Quilts. Kits with pre-cut fabrics in a fast and fun pattern are provided. Great for both beginner and experienced quilters. There is no cost for the quilt kits, backing, or batting. The completed quilts are donated to children in need. Coordinator: Jodie Land.

 

Effects of Long-Term Covid 6/15 10:30 a.m.

There is some confusing information about the long-term effects of Covid-19. Please join us and our guest speaker to shed light on the situation. 

 

Ice Cream Social Friday, 6/16 at 12:15 p.m.

Medicaid Caregiver Assessment 6/20 at 12:15 p.m.

We are having a Medicaid Specialist coming in to help navigate caregiving and funds. You or your loved one may be able to receive funds from Medicaid; stop by to find out.

How is the Reading Challenge coming along? Come and talk about your favorite books and play fun pop culture trivia games! 

 

Breaktime Respite Club 6/29 at 10:45 a.m.

Breaktime Respite Club will be joining us to talk about their program and to help shed light on the importance of respite. 

 

Keep Your Keys 6/30 at 12:30 p.m.

Keep Your Keys provides tips to stay mentally, medically, and physically fit to drive. Our goal is to keep our seniors on the road as long and safe as possible. 

 

July and August Preview with June Registration Deadline

 

Fantastic Travels, Wednesday, 7/12, from 7:45 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Deadline to pre-register: 6/9 Price: $128

Our first stop will be Lambert’s Café for an included lunch, followed by a visit to the original Bass Pro Shop, a pioneer of destination retail, with time to explore on your own. Next, you will go to Fantastic Caverns for a ride-through tour of the cave where you will see centuries-old stalagmites, stalactites, and other beautiful, amazing formations. We will make a stop at Osceola Cheese, home of over 275 varieties of cheese, during the return trip to Independence.

 

Under the Sea, Thursday, 8/17, from 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Deadline to pre-register: 6/10 Price: $49

Be transported into the amazing underwater world during a tour of the Sea Life Aquarium, where more than 5,000 sea creatures live. After the aquarium, visit The Hallmark Visitors Center to learn about Hallmark’s rich history and see how greeting cards are made. You will then have time at Crown Center for lunch on your own and shopping before returning to the Palmer Center. 

 

New Theatre - Dream Girls, Wednesday, 7/19, from 10:15 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Deadline to pre-register: 6/16 Price: $59 

Enjoy a wonderful lunch buffet, followed by the hit show, Dream Girls. This spectacular musical tells the rags-to-riches story of a 1960s Motown girl group and the triumphs and tribulations that come with fame and fortune.
