City of Independence invites public to open house for Independence Square redevelopment input

The City of Independence is seeking public input at an open house on initial concepts for a redevelopment of the Independence Square.

The City is in the midst of redeveloping Independence Square, which has been the City’s commercial center since the City was founded in 1827. The goals for this project include the redevelopment and relocation of the National Frontier Trails Museum and the redevelopment of civic facilities such as City Hall, Justice Center, Community Center and amphitheater.

This redevelopment planning process is a result of recommendations from multiple planning efforts including Imagine Independence: Comprehensive Plan (2018); Downtown Streetscape Action Plan (2020); and Truman Connected Plan (2020).

During the open house on Thursday, January 25, the public can view initial concepts for Independence Square and provide direct input. There will be no formal presentation at this event – it will be a come-and-go open house. However, members of City leadership and the consultant team will be on hand to answer questions.
